Air India Airline Baggage Policy:

Air India's baggage policy can make a difference in how simple or expensive your journey becomes. This is especially true on long-haul international flights or if you are connecting on numerous flights. This guide is for travelers who want to be informed about the fine print of their ticket so that they do not overspend.

We will start with Air India's cabin baggage rules, including how your items fit into their size and weight restrictions. Then we will cover checked baggage, different travel classes, route-specific baggage allowances and fare classes, and help you calculate how much you can plan and pack before the flight. We will then review Air India's protocol on oversized baggage, excess baggage fees, and special provisions for certain items like musical instruments or sporting equipment. Along the way we will provide important considerations if you are traveling with children, an infant, or even a pet. Our goal is that you feel prepared prior to going to the airport and be able to eliminate some of the stress of traveling with Air India International.

If you are flying to any of these countries, here is a list of guidelines from packing to understanding Out of Gauge (OOG) and Super Out of Gauge (SOOG) baggage, associated charges, and more.

(1) Bahrain International Airport

Bahrain International Airport recommends using of regular travel bags or bags with at least one flat surface to ensure swift movement. You can also use suitable boxes with at least one flat surface to send your belongings.

(2) Oman International Airport

The Oman International Airport considers all baggage inconsistent in shape and size as Out of Gauge (OOG) or Super Out of Gauge (SOOG). Your baggage will be considered OOG, SOOG, or non-standard if:

Knowing the cabin baggage restrictions and checked baggage restrictions, how they describe over-sized baggage and restricted items, and preparing these things beforehand will save a valuable amount of time and unnecessary cost at the airport. It doesn’t matter if it is either a domestic or international flight, Air India makes it very clear on the baggage allowance/entitlement, which varies per class of travel, route and class of fare ticket. Just remember to check and collect air carrier-related information related to dimensions, allowed weight, and the list of restricted items prior to leaving from your home. With this baggage-related knowledge and understanding, you will be able to travel with confidence, less unwanted stress, and have an overall better experience using Air India.
