Saudia's Airline Baggage Policy

Saudia follows a simple baggage policy for passengers to enjoy the journey while remaining within international frameworks. Checked baggage is based upon the travel class and routing. The Economy Class entitlement is 1 piece with a 23 kg weight limitation. Business Class and First Class allow 2 pieces, 32 kg each. If travelling on a long-haul route with business class, 3 pieces may be allowed. An AlFursan Silver or Gold Member can check additional free baggage; however, a passenger cannot check any more than the maximum size, 158 cm (total dimensions). Oversized or overweight baggage over 32 kg must be treated as cargo.

For cabin baggage, economy passengers are entitled to 1 carry-on at 7 kg; business class and first class are 12 kg (plus briefcase). No charge will be made for some personal items such as handbags, laptops, coats, and infant essentials. Saudia recommends checking baggage entitlements at the time of booking, as baggage entitlements may vary based on route, ticket type, and fare class.

Saudia's baggage upgrade service

Saudia provides several options for its guests to accept applicable baggage, depending on the ticket type and price band. Moreover, you can choose to increase the baggage allowance on selected domestic and international flights operated by Saudia.

  • The weight allowance for each item in Guest class is 23 kg (50 lbs), and it must be within the allowed dimension limits (158 cm / 62 inches).
  • You can increase the weight of the bags, using the "Saudia" website and mobile application, beyond the acceptable limit up to a maximum of 32 kg / 70 lbs.
  • If the weight or dimensions of the bag exceed the allowable limits, please speak with an airport representative to see if this service is viable.

  • This service is available only to guests with confirmed tickets and excludes infant tickets.

  • Payment for this service is to be made with any accepted method by “Saudia" with a valid guest class ticket.

  • After making the booking, you will receive a confirmation email and an official receipt (voucher).

  • Make sure to keep the confirmation email so you can refer to it for the service reservation.
  • Changes or refunds are prohibited after the purchase is authorized & completed. It is valid only with the original booking reference and for the particular time/date/flight.

  • In the case of a no-show or requesting any new service or bidding, the current baggage voucher will become invalid.

  • Saudia has the right to refuse baggage for safety reasons; if guests don't follow approved safety instructions, they will have no refund eligibility.

Using all reasonable endeavors, "Saudia" will ensure the facilitation of all guest requests to deliver baggage to the arrival destination. For instances where their actions lead to unforeseen flight disruptions that impact the customer, these circumstances will be outside of the controls of "Saudia." However, should they wish to ask for involuntary changes or refunds due to flight delays or cancellations per "Saudia" policies or where they do not receive the services, they will be permitted to do so.

Pre-Paid online Excess Baggage Charges

Now you can book extra bags for your trip for selected destinations through the "Saudia" website and mobile application at discounted rates of up to 30%.

Simply retrieve an existing booking and purchase extra bags.

If you purchase an extra bag, you will receive a voucher for each extra bag subject to the following:

  • Extra baggage vouchers are valid and redeemable for one year from the issue date.
  • Extra baggage vouchers are not refundable or issued again, nor can they change flight times or re-route you.
  • If there is a no-show, the guest will lose the full value of the extra baggage voucher.
  • This service is limited to specific destinations and sectors, and due to operational limits, the service may not be available for online pre-purchase. Otherwise, you can pay at the airport for your excess baggage.

Hand Baggage

Saudia permits each passenger to have a limit of hand luggage based on travel class, and hand luggage is in the custody and responsibility of the passenger. All hand luggage may be placed in the overhead bins in the aircraft.

First and Business Class

  • Adults and children only carry on hand luggage. No infant allowance.
  • Handbag or hand-bag allowance (size piece not to exceed 56 X 45 X 25 cm (22 x 18 x 10 in))
  • Document briefcase (size piece not to exceed 45 X 20 X 35 (cm) or 18 X X 14 (In))
  • One piece that does not exceed 12 kg in addition to a piece that does not exceed 9 kg.

Guest Class

  • Hand luggage (the dimension of the piece shall not exceed 56 X 45 X 25 cm (22 X 18 X 10 in)).
  • The cumulative weight of the luggage shall not exceed 7 kg.
  • The new rules implemented for special hand luggage apply to all passengers departing from and/or departing to airports in the USA, Canada and the EU countries and on board

Transit flights transiting these airports. The rules include:

  • Allow a single piece of hand luggage.
  • Allow to carry in hand luggage some goods such as food and milk for underage children, medicines, a computer (laptop), a mobile phone, some used electrical goods, money, and a passenger's passport and travel documents.
  • It is compulsory to utilize a transparent plastic bag to carry the food and milk for underage children/medicines (total volume of all packages carried in the plastic bag shall not exceed one liter), to be inspected by security services.
  • The traveller may need to provide some documentation to verify the ownership of those medicines.

Lost or Mishandled Baggage

If your baggage was delayed, damaged, or misplaced while flying on Saudia Airlines (SV), the airline has mechanisms to follow up and resolve your issue.

Immediate Reporting: The passenger must advise that if baggage is delayed/damaged they must go to a Saudia baggage service desk at the airport and make a report in person at the time of arrival before leaving the arrivals hall.

Property Irregularity Report (PIR) number: This number is very useful to track and update for a damaged piece of baggage or missing piece of baggage. You will need this number for follow up.

Baggage Tracking: Saudia uses WorldTracer. This is an international luggage tracing system that has an online portal that passengers can check the status, or seek to update the status of their missing luggage.

Delivery: When your luggage is found Saudia will send the luggage to your home address as a courtesy at no expense.

Compensation: If your luggage is declared lost, or has been damaged beyond repair Saudia will follow the terms set out in the Montreal Convention and its own policy with respect to compensation.

Time Limits:
Delayed baggage: You must report the baggage within 21 days of receipt of delayed baggage

Damaged baggage: You must report the baggage within 7 days of receiving luggage.

Saudia increases baggage limits

I was unable to find any recent factual information (2024 or later) that supports a change in baggage limits for Saudia Airlines. In fact, the changes seem to be heading to more restrictive enforcement or lower allowance, not an increase.

1. Older Domestic Fare Package (2018)

At the start of 2018, Saudia had implemented their new domestic fare types (Economy Saver, Basic, and Flex). However, the domestic baggage weight limits have remained unchanged, and the prices were:
Economy (23 kg) Business kg/first class (32kg per piece)
with oversized and overweight fees applied.

2. Reported Domestic Weight Increase (Date Undetermined)

The source stated that economy class passengers were allowed to check in 25 kg instead of 20 kg, while AlFursan members had even more, with total allowances at 75 kg for some elites.
However, this article did not have a date, and I found no confirmation from official or recent sources to confirm any change or if this is still ongoing.

3. Update from 2024-2025 (It’s a Change, Not an Increase)

The 2024-2025 overview identified changes to the baggage fees, not changed baggage allowances. For instance:
Economy class still allowed 23 kg per bag.
Domestic oversized bag charge of SAR 100, plus overweight/oversize fees for international.
Mighty Travels Premium
Interestingly, it did mention that for business class on long-haul, passengers were actually allowed three checked bags at 32 kg each—well above the previous maximum of two 32 kg.

4. Confusing Reports & Differences

A number of dated sources report different policies under the "piece concept" (e.g., the 2nd bag in economy is an additional piece, with different charges by region).
Subsequent reports confirm the confusion faced by passengers—and again even inconsistencies internally (e.g., some employees have/will quote 32 kg; others say it's 25 kg)—that suggest policy was not clear or was changing.
But none propose any formally documented increase to baggage limits.
